Filming Spaces
Stoke-on-Trent boasts a rich area of heritage and industrial architecture, with many of its unique buildings and landmarks taking centre stage on screen. From the award-winning Gladstone Pottery Museum, home to Channel 4’s The Great Pottery Throw Down and featured in Netflix drama The Irregulars, to Middleport Pottery, which gained global recognition in the BBC series Peaky Blinders, the city has become an increasingly sought-after filming destination.
A number of major productions have been filmed locally, including SoulBoy, The Girl with All the Gifts, Jawbone, and The Colour Room. The city also featured in Marvellous and the Oscar-winning short film The Silent Child, starring and co-produced by Caverswall-born Rachel Shenton. Commercial and television successes further highlight the area’s versatility, from the Lloyds Bank advert showcasing the iconic black horse galloping across the striking Chatterley Whitfield Coilliery landscape, to appearances in Great Canal Journeys with Gyles Brandreth and Sheila Hancock, Celebrity Masterchef and Antiques Roadshow.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council works closely with Screen Staffordshire, the region’s dedicated Film Office, to support productions and connect filmmakers with a diverse range of locations. With excellent accessibility via major road and rail networks, and a compelling mix of heritage sites, industrial backdrops, urban settings, and expansive green landscapes, Stoke-on-Trent offers a truly versatile and film-friendly destination.
